Dr. Melissa Bravo, NCC, LPC - Owner & Clinical Director
Dr. Melissa Bravo, LPC

Hello, I am Melissa (she/her) and I received my M.S. in Mental Health Counseling from Capella University in 2010 and in 2020 I received my PhD from Capella University in Advanced Studies in Human Behavior.

I am currently licensed in the State of Oregon by the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and am also a National Certified Counselor through the National Board of Certified Counselors. I am also a state of Oregon recognized supervisor for other mental health counselors looking to receive their licensure.

In my practice and with my supervisees I use techniques from all models of therapy and supervision because no one person responds to the same technique. I have been providing therapy since 2009 and started with children, adolescents, and intellectual and developmentally disabled populations but found my passion with adolescents and young adults. My other passion is treating individuals who have experienced trauma in their lives and is something close to my heart, but that does not stop me from treating other disorders as well.

Alaina Russell, Board Registered Associate
Alaina Russell, Board Registered Associate

Hi there, I am Alaina Russell (she/her). I graduated with my master's in clinical Mental Health Counseling at George Fox University. I am an Oregonian and enjoy all that our state has to offer. Getting outside is one of the ways I keep up with my own mental health.

I am passionate about working alongside people, helping them navigate through life’s challenges. I believe that we are all unique individuals who require an equally unique approach to our mental health. I want to form a collaborative relationship with my clients, as I believe that the therapeutic relationship is extremely healing. Holistic care is a pillar in my belief system, and I will always be sure to consider the whole person in therapy. I am open to working with all clients from all backgrounds, including individuals, children, and couples. My areas of interest include anxiety, depression, grief/loss, life transitions, and trauma.

I have my bachelor's degree in human physiology, leading me to a passion in mind and body wellness. I have personal experience with therapy, which led me to pursue a career in counseling. I became a therapist because I believe in people. Life is hard, and a lot of times can feel overwhelming. I believe that people are capable of adapting and overcoming, but may need some support while working through whatever is impacting them. Therapy has positively impacted my own life, showing me first hand the healing power of connection and relationship that therapy facilitates.

Humanistic therapy adopts a holistic approach, and focuses on a person's individual nature. Humanistic therapy aims to consider the whole person, while helping you develop a strong and healthy sense of self, explore your feelings, find meaning, and focus on your strengths. The three parts that make up humanistic therapy are: unconditional positive regard, empathetic understanding, and genuineness.

Ashley Powell, Board Registered Associate
Ashley Powell QMHP

Hey friends, I’m Ashley! (she/her)

I grew up in a little town, Yreka, California and moved to Salem after I graduated high school to attend Corban University where I obtained my bachelors degree in Psychology and Business. I recently graduated from Grand Canyon University getting my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

Since I was young, I have always had a passion with wanting to help people. I just have a huge heart for those around me, no matter the circumstance or person. I have experience working with children on the spectrum as I was a behavioral technician for a couple of years, which eventually led me to begin my Masters in counseling and now, here I am!

I am interested in working with teens/young adults/adults but am open to working with anyone. My goal is to meet my clients where they are at, and to get them to where they want to be. I also believe that every client is going to require something different, therefore I am not limited to one idea or approach. I look forward to working with my clients and creating a safe-space for any and all individuals. I want my clients to feel seen, be heard and ultimately help them with their goals and reach their full potential.

Hi there!

I’m so glad you’re here. My name is Sean Madden (he/him). I graduated with my bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Portland State University and am currently pursuing my master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at George Fox University. Through my training, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for how people grow through reflection, connection, and support. I’m continually inspired by learning more about mental health, relationships, and what shapes our experiences.

I believe you’re the expert on your own life. You’re in the driver’s seat while I’m more in the backseat holding the maps. Each person brings their own unique story, strengths, and challenges into counseling. My role is to create a supportive, nonjudgmental space where you feel heard, respected, and free to explore what matters most. I value a collaborative, compassionate, person-centered approach, and I believe healing starts with genuine connection. I want you to feel safe getting to know me as much as I get to know you.

Originally from Northern California, I moved to the Pacific Northwest in 2014 and love calling this beautiful region home. In my free time, you’ll find me with my partner, our two hilarious dogs, and equally funny cat, gardening, photographing the PNW wonderland, spending time with good friends, and exploring the outdoors.

I can’t wait to meet you!

Xiclaly Cruz, QMHP
Xiclaly Cruz, QMHP

Hello my name is Xiclaly Cruz (she/her), I am currently a graduate student in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program at George Fox University. I earned my Bachelor of Science from Western Oregon University in 2023. I am excited to be able to provide therapy in both English and Spanish. Work with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds as they learn to navigate their own mental health experience.

Being a first generation student and having immigrant parents, mental health awareness was almost nonexistent in my household. I hope to eventually be able to start an organization to help people in minority communities and cultures learn about the importance of mental health. I am an open minded individual which has helped me understand the importance of cultural and spiritual identity, language, and perspectives of different lived experiences.

My counseling approach is grounded in a person-centered framework, emphasizing empathy, authenticity, and positive regard while creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard and understood. I take an integrative approach, drawing from play therapy, mindfulness-based CBT, family systems, and Gestalt therapy, and tailor these modalities to meet each client’s unique needs, strengths, and goals. Through this work, I hope to support clients in building self-awareness, developing coping skills, strengthening relationships, and fostering personal growth.

Madie Stephen, QMHP
Madie Stephen, QMHP

Hello, I’m Madie (she/her)!

I am currently pursuing a masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at George Fox University. I received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology from Gonzaga University in 2024. I thoroughly enjoyed my undergraduate learning experience, and I am excited to continue to learn more about psychology, systems, and the mental health field. Life-long learning is a passion of mine, and I am committed to gaining knowledge and wisdom to better improve myself and my therapeutic relationships.

I believe that we are all products of our experience and environment. Everyone has a unique background that shapes who we are as people, and we all feel the emotions related to that experience in different ways. I believe in meeting people where they are at without judgement. My style is collaborative, empathetic, and compassionate. I take on a person-centered and emotion-focused approach to therapy. I am interested in working with children and teens, but I am open to working with adults!

I am originally from Southern California, but I have spent the past five years of my life in the PNW. I value building relationships with people, and I welcome everyone as they are. When I am not in classes or the counseling space, I enjoy spending time with my partner, painting, and being outside!

Mackenzie Layne, QMHP
Mackenzie Layne, QMHP

Hello, my name is Mac (he/him),

I am currently attending George Fox University and working towards a Masters degree in Mental Health Counseling. I graduated from Western Oregon University (W.O.U) in 2018 with a Bachelors Degree in Professional Education. After earning my degree from W.O.U, I worked as a teacher in the Salem-Keizer School district for eight years. While teaching I learned that I really enjoyed helping students analyze the problems they were facing in their day-to-day lives and helping them through those problems. This aspect of teaching served as the motivation to pursue a career in counseling.

In my practice I believe the client knows themselves better than anyone and they bring their life experiences-- negative and positive--into the counseling space. My role is to help you identify where you want to grow and show you strategies that may help you heal. I believe healing starts with the therapeutic relationship and from there we will be able to grow and work together. I initially entered this field with a desire to work with teens and folks within the LGBTQ+ community, but I am open to working with all ages, and all humans!

I am born and raised in the Pacific North West. I enjoy collecting vintage music, working on my 1984 Jeep, and going on adventures with my dog and my wife. I am excited to meet you and work together!

Hello, my name is Samantha (she/her) and I am a graduate student in Marriage, Family, and Couples Therapy at George Fox University and a counseling intern with a clinical focus on neurodivergence-affirming care. Over the past seven years, I have worked in functional medicine and neurorehabilitation, supporting individuals with neurological and vestibular injuries and disorders. This experience has shaped my path toward providing ongoing, relational care for individuals and families navigating neurodivergence, diagnosis, and identity across the lifespan.

My work centers on creating inclusive, accessible therapeutic spaces for clients of all abilities, including non-verbal populations, with a strong emphasis on play-based approaches that honor each person’s unique way of communicating and engaging with the world. My approach is grounded in Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and narrative therapy, all integrated through a neurologically informed and neurodiversity-affirming lens. I am especially passionate about supporting families as they adjust to neurodivergence diagnoses, fostering understanding, connection, and resilience while prioritizing autonomy, self-advocacy, and strengths-based care.

Maria Barrera Diaz, QMHP
Maria Barrera Diaz, QMHP

Hello, my name is Maria Barrera (She/Her/Ella) and I’m currently pursuing my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Eastern Oregon University. I earned my Bachelor of Science degree from Western Oregon University in 2021, and I’m beyond excited to be an intern at Align Counseling working with individuals from diverse backgrounds as they navigate their mental health journeys. I’m able to offer therapy in both English and Spanish, whichever the client is most comfortable using.

As a first-generation college graduate and a Mexican/Latina counselor-in-training, I hold a deep appreciation for the transformative power of mental health support. My own lived experiences have shown me how meaningful and life-changing counseling can be, which has strongly influenced my desire to help others experience growth, healing, and empowerment in their own lives. I’m especially passionate about increasing representation within the mental health field and supporting individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. I understand the importance of cultural identity, language, and lived experience in the therapeutic process, and how these factors can shape a client’s life and ability to fully express themselves in therapy.

My approach to counseling is grounded in a person-centered framework, emphasizing empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard. I also value an integrative approach to therapy, recognizing that each individual is unique and that no single therapeutic modality works for everyone. I believe effective counseling involves tailoring approaches to best meet each client’s needs, strengths, and goals. My priority is to create a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard, respected, and understood.

After graduating from the University of Oregon, I knew counseling was a path I wanted to pursue. I value the relational aspects of counseling and strive to create a safe, supportive space where clients can explore their experiences and strengths. I have a strong interest in working with men and supporting their mental health and emotional well-being, as well as working with clients navigating anxiety, stress, life transitions, and emotional overwhelm.
